Knockiel Quarry

Knockiel Quarry

From The Rhymes of a Rustic Boy

Clint Eastwood rode the Rio Grande, John Wayne the Rio Verde,
John fought the injuns on the plains; Clint clocked some outlaws sturdy,
But John and Clint they gave a stint, with me and my friend Gerry,
As we rode from school,‘twas then the rule to “shoot up” knockiel quarry,

Knockiel was then a seething den of injuns, thieves, and crooks,
So Ger. and me rode out at three, and in to the history books,
Our trusty posse rode with us, made up of mainly Cleeres,
Besides ‘twas on their way from school.they rode with us those years.

Mick Deegan was our scout back then, he knew that canyon well,
If there were injuns lurking there, he’d be the man could tell,
As soon as Mick had spotted them ‘twas then all hell broke loose,
We’d shoot all the apaches and set the white folks loose,

Then John and Clint, the Cleeres and me we’d mount and ride away,
Wounded but content that we would fight another day,
We still had lots of foes to fight but we were in no hurry,
We’d fight them all again next day above in Knockiel quarry.
