Little pink rain coat
From The Rhymes of a Rustic Boy
A sadder sight I’d seldom seen it moved me to the core,
A fleeting glance as I passed by, pink rain coat at a door,
I knew the house her mam had died a week had barely passed,
She looked so lost, I felt so low for driving by so fast,
The day was dark, a day when all the world looks sad and grey,
When you are six you squeeze your eyes to wish it all away.
How big and bad it must have seemed-the world-to her that day,
Her little hood around her head to keep it all at bay,
Her lonely porch, her only port, the image stayed with me,
It stayed one year, again I passed, I took a glance to see,
Her world was looking brighter now, some sun had come her way,
She sat and smiled upon her swing…-pink rain coat cast away.
